As the sun sets today, we pause, quietly and with gratitude, to remember Second Lieutenant Malcolm Gordon Bland, who died on this day in 1918, aged just 19.
A life so young, given in service, and a sacrifice that echoes far beyond his years.
Especially in times of growing uncertainty, we are reminded of those who gave their lives so tragically, so that others might live in freedom. Their courage and sacrifice remain as important now as they were then.
We are deeply honoured to be the custodians of his memorial plaque here, a small but meaningful reminder that his story, his courage, and his name will always have a place, and will never be forgotten.
Today, we give thanks for his service and reflect on the true cost of freedom. He is remembered with honour at the Arras Memorial, and in moments like this, also here with us.
Lest we forget.
