💻 FRIDAY – WORK FROM HOME? WORK FROM PUB!
Beautiful surroundings, masses of plug sockets, cosy corners, fabulous coffee and lunchtime offerings from light-bite sandwiches to our hearty BIG BOY burgers!

There’s something rather magical about a crisp, dry autumn evening and a beautiful sunset. Wander on in, grab a glass of something delicious and settle into our bar as the sun goes down and the fire roars!

Our wonderful walking group sets off for a Sunday stroll. Fresh air, friendship and good company. Everyone welcome!

Our pubs are so much more than somewhere to enjoy a pint or a Sunday roast.
They are the heartbeat of our communities. Places where friendships are made, memories are created, people find company, local jobs are supported and everyone has somewhere to belong. ❤️
But across the UK, our hospitality industry is under enormous pressure.
Rising costs, increasing overheads and a VAT rate of 20% are making it harder and harder for independent pubs, restaurants and cafés to survive.
Chef and publican Tom Kerridge is spearheading the #VATsTheProblem campaign, calling for a fairer 10% VAT rate for hospitality.
And we couldn’t agree more!

🚧 ROAD CLOSURES, SMALL BUSINESSES & A LITTLE COMMUNITY SPIRIT! ❤️ Here’s Shane with a thought on the current road closures and chaotic situation affecting Southam, Deppers Bridge and the surrounding villages.
Unfortunately, these ongoing disruptions don’t just affect us here at The Great Western. They affect our neighbours and fellow independent businesses in Ladbroke, Bishop’s Itchington, Harbury, Gaydon and beyond.
And that’s really why we wanted to share this message. Behind every independent business is a person, a family, a team, a dream and an awful lot of hard work.
Whether it’s your local pub, café, salon, village shop, garage, pet store or little independent retailer, we’re all trying to do the same thing — make a living, support our teams, serve our communities and keep our villages thriving.
There may be a few more diversions, a slightly longer journey or the occasional frustrating road closure, but please, don’t let the roadworks become the reason you stop supporting your local businesses.
Because sometimes, when it’s that little bit harder to reach us, that’s when your support means the most.
We’re not just speaking up for The Great Western. We’re holding out a hand to every other independent business in our neighbouring villages that’s navigating these challenges alongside us.
We are neighbours. And when one local business thrives, our whole community benefits.
So please, drive carefully, follow the diversions, take that extra little journey and keep showing up for your local independents.

Another wonderful evening at The Great Western! A huge thank you to everyone who came along, joined in and helped make our second quiz night another memorable one! ❤️
Our quiz nights are, and always will be, FREE community events. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a quiz whizz, a champion guesser or simply fancy an evening of laughter, friendship and a little friendly competition! The emphasis is always on FUN, good humour and good sportsmanship. After all, we’re here to bring people together! 🥰
🏆 Congratulations to our winning team, who walked away with a fabulous £50 Great Western voucher to enjoy a meal on us!
🥦 And an equally enormous congratulations to the winner of our legendary CAULIFLOWER! And before anyone says it, this is absolutely NOT a booby prize! She’s a beautiful cauliflower, a prize in her own right, and we cannot wait to see what culinary masterpiece she becomes! 😂
