Welcome to The Great Western, a place where history, great food, and community come together.

Nestled in the heart of Warwickshire, The Great Western Pub has been a local treasure since the mid-1800s. Originally established to serve travellers and workers of the Great Western Railway at the nearby Southam Road and Harbury station, our pub has retained its iconic charm for generations. Steeped in history and connected to the legacy of British engineering, we are proud to be a symbol of tradition in a modern world.

🍻 #VATsTheProblem — AND IT REALLY IS A PROBLEM!
Our pubs are so much more than somewhere to enjoy a pint or a Sunday roast.
They are the heartbeat of our communities. Places where friendships are made, memories are created, people find company, local jobs are supported and everyone has somewhere to belong. ❤️
But across the UK, our hospitality industry is under enormous pressure.
Rising costs, increasing overheads and a VAT rate of 20% are making it harder and harder for independent pubs, restaurants and cafés to survive.
Chef and publican Tom Kerridge is spearheading the #VATsTheProblem campaign, calling for a fairer 10% VAT rate for hospitality.
And we couldn’t agree more!

🚧 ROAD CLOSURES, SMALL BUSINESSES & A LITTLE COMMUNITY SPIRIT! ❤️ Here’s Shane with a thought on the current road closures and chaotic situation affecting Southam, Deppers Bridge and the surrounding villages.
Unfortunately, these ongoing disruptions don’t just affect us here at The Great Western. They affect our neighbours and fellow independent businesses in Ladbroke, Bishop’s Itchington, Harbury, Gaydon and beyond.
And that’s really why we wanted to share this message. Behind every independent business is a person, a family, a team, a dream and an awful lot of hard work.
Whether it’s your local pub, café, salon, village shop, garage, pet store or little independent retailer, we’re all trying to do the same thing — make a living, support our teams, serve our communities and keep our villages thriving.
There may be a few more diversions, a slightly longer journey or the occasional frustrating road closure, but please, don’t let the roadworks become the reason you stop supporting your local businesses.
Because sometimes, when it’s that little bit harder to reach us, that’s when your support means the most.
We’re not just speaking up for The Great Western. We’re holding out a hand to every other independent business in our neighbouring villages that’s navigating these challenges alongside us.
