🇬🇧 Armistice Day
As we make our way into the weekend, we prepare to pause: To stand still, to reflect, and to remember.
We are proud custodians of the three blue plaques mounted on our walls — each marking the life of a local gentleman who once lived, served, and gave all. Their stories and sacrifice are woven into the very fabric of this place, and it is our honour to ensure they are never forgotten.
On Tuesday 11th November at 11:00 am, The Great Western will hold a short and simple act of remembrance.
At 10:45 am, we invite you — along with our staff, guests, and friends — to gather quietly outside by the plaques and poppy display.
At 10:58 am, the Exhortation will be read by Captain Paul Dodd Sqn Ldr(Retd), followed by the national Two-Minute Silence at 11:00 am — the precise moment the guns fell silent in 1918.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”
